Raytheon has delivered the first PhantomStrike® radar to Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) for their FA-50 Light Combat Aircraft fleet.
Raytheon, an RTX business, has delivered the first PhantomStrike® radar to Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) for integration on the FA-50 Light Combat Aircraft fleet — marking a major step in advancing radar capabilities for light fighter platforms.
Developed as a fully air-cooled, high-efficiency Gallium Nitride (GaN) fire-control radar, PhantomStrike provides long-range detection, tracking, and targeting in complex, contested airspace.
With nearly half the cost and weight of a typical fire-control radar, it delivers enhanced agility through a faster digital beam, improved target discrimination, and superior resistance to jamming.
“Delivering the first PhantomStrike system to KAI marks a pivotal step in equipping our customers with the advanced technology needed to maintain a decisive advantage in combat,” said Dan Theisen, President of Advanced Products and Solutions at Raytheon.
Designed for size, weight, and power-constrained platforms, PhantomStrike extends fighter-level radar performance to uncrewed aircraft, light-attack jets, and helicopters. Raytheon recently completed a series of flight tests on its Multi-Program Testbed aircraft, validating both air-to-air and air-to-ground performance, followed by delivery of an integration unit earlier this year.
Production spans Forest (Mississippi), Tucson (Arizona), and Scotland, with support from Raytheon UK.
The radar has been approved for export under a Direct Commercial Sale (DCS) model, paving the way for additional international customers.
As KAI continues to expand its FA-50 export program, the addition of PhantomStrike strengthens the platform’s competitiveness among global light combat aircraft — delivering advanced situational awareness and mission flexibility at reduced cost and weight.
