This year’s AUSA Annual Meeting & Exposition in Washington, DC, themed “Transforming for a Complex World,” brings forward some of the latest innovations and critical advancements by American Rheinmetall, along with key global partners from Rheinmetall’s defense enterprise. From game-changing ground vehicles and artillery systems to advanced munitions and electronic warfare solutions, Rheinmetall’s booth (#2249) offers a first-hand look at technologies designed to meet the U.S. Army’s modern combat requirements.
Highlights of Rheinmetall’s Showcases
S-MET Prototype Vehicle: Modular Design for the Future of Unmanned Operations
American Rheinmetall Vehicles’ S-MET (Small Multi-Purpose Equipment Transport) prototype has made waves as a top pick in the Army’s S-MET Increment II Vehicle Program. This unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) brings forward 20+ years of Rheinmetall’s UGV experience, featuring Moog’s Flexible Mission Platform (FMP™) and Parry Labs’ Edge Compute (EC) Micro. This setup allows the S-MET to handle various mission payloads—such as resupply, CASEVAC, c-UAS, and electronic warfare—while supporting fully autonomous operations.
HX Heavy Recovery Vehicle: Built for Tactical Versatility
The HX Heavy Recovery Vehicle, part of Rheinmetall’s HX family of tactical trucks, boasts superior off-road mobility and unmatched recovery capabilities. With a modular cab that toggles between protected and unprotected versions, this truck ensures the recovery of crucial assets, like the M10 Booker medium-weight tank, while maintaining the infantry’s mobility needs. Based on the HX chassis, this platform extends Rheinmetall’s Common Tactical Truck solutions and aligns with evolving Army requirements.
RCH 155 Mobile Artillery System: Precision and Power in Motion
Rheinmetall’s RCH 155, developed in partnership with KNDS and ARTEC, showcases artillery excellence with its 155mm/L52 cannon system, integrated onto the highly mobile BOXER wheeled vehicle. Capable of firing 9 rounds per minute and reaching targets over 58km away, the RCH 155’s automation allows it to shoot on the move with a minimal two-person crew, setting a new standard for self-propelled artillery. Recently adopted by NATO allies, the RCH 155 is poised to support the U.S. Army’s artillery modernization strategy.
Lynx XM30: Redefining Combat Vehicle Standards
A powerful addition to Rheinmetall’s lineup, the Lynx XM30 features a lethal, unmanned 50mm turret with advanced 3GEN FLIR, ensuring exceptional maneuverability, protection, and situational awareness. At AUSA, cleared personnel can engage with its augmented reality demonstrator, offering a glimpse into next-gen combat vehicle technology as American Rheinmetall Vehicles advances through the final phases of Army testing.
Electronic Mission Systems: Networked Warfare at the Edge
Displayed on a mobile Systems Integration Lab (SIL) demo vehicle, Rheinmetall’s electronic mission systems offer a modular combat vehicle system equipped for 360° situational awareness, target acquisition, and effective control across unmanned networks. Partnering with blackned, Rheinmetall integrates TacticalCore, a resilient communication solution that ensures seamless command and control in contested environments.
Skyranger 30mm c-UAS Turret and Airburst Munition: Superior Air Defense
Designed for counter-unmanned aerial system (c-UAS) operations, Rheinmetall’s Skyranger provides agile, mobile air defense with the 30x173mm Revolver Cannon® KCE-ABM and ground-to-air missiles. This system offers unmatched defense capabilities against agile or swarm threats, aligning with the Army’s Air and Missile Defense priorities.
Advanced Munitions: Dominance Across Calibers
AUSA attendees can explore Rheinmetall’s advanced munitions, including Extended Range Top Charge propellant and the V-LAP 155mm ammunition, renowned for setting world records in artillery range and lethality. Additionally, the 40mm Squad Support Weapon provides squad-level support with an innovative, magazine-loaded grenade launcher, reinforcing Rheinmetall’s commitment to Soldier Lethality.
Visitors are invited to explore these solutions and more at AUSA Booth #2249, where Rheinmetall presents capabilities critical to the future of land warfare.
