QinetiQ Secures $95 Million Contract with US Army for Advanced Aerial Target Systems

QinetiQ has been awarded the Aerial Target Systems (ATS-3) contract by the US Army, marking a significant milestone as the company enters the US market as a prime contractor for sophisticated aerial target systems. The indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract has a ceiling of $95 million.

Under this agreement, QinetiQ will compete for various task orders, providing a comprehensive suite of aerial systems, including the state-of-the-art MQM-185B (Banshee Jet 80+). These systems are designed to simulate realistic threats for the US Army’s training and testing exercises worldwide. Alongside system delivery, QinetiQ will offer operational support to maximize effectiveness, usability, and reliability.

Sam Lewis, Group Chief Growth Officer at QinetiQ, stated: “Achieving this first step of becoming a prime contractor to the US Army has been a global effort, drawing on our world-leading expertise in target systems, engineering, and robotics services from our operations in the UK, US, Australia, Germany, and Canada.”

Lewis emphasized that this contract not only highlights QinetiQ’s global credibility but also showcases their commitment to supporting the training and readiness of US troops against evolving threats.

Leveraging its 30+ years of experience in aerial targets, QinetiQ will utilize its end-to-end expertise to research and develop innovative technologies, enhance system engineering for improved performance, integrate advanced payloads for threat simulation, and improve autonomous capabilities through software advancements. QinetiQ’s aerial targets boast a 97% mission success rate over the past five years, demonstrating their adaptability and capability to meet specific customer needs.
