Airbus Defence and Space has announced a strategic reorganization to strengthen its competitiveness in response to ongoing market challenges, particularly within its Space Systems sector. The Division aims to streamline its operations, implementing an efficient, end-to-end organizational structure across business lines, including Air Power, Space Systems, and Connected Intelligence. This initiative is expected to lead to a reduction of up to 2,500 positions by mid-2026.
Airbus Defence and Space CEO, Mike Schoellhorn, cited the complex environment, impacted by disrupted supply chains, evolving defense demands, and budget pressures, as driving factors for the restructuring. “To remain a competitive leader in Europe’s Defence Aerospace ecosystem, we need to become faster, leaner, and more resilient,” he stated, emphasizing Airbus’s commitment to responsible employment practices during this transition.
Discussions with Airbus’s social partners are underway to mitigate the workforce impact, with a focus on voluntary social measures. The consultation process with stakeholders will continue to define the specifics of the restructuring plan.
