The Dutch Ministry of Defence is enhancing its training capabilities by procuring simulators for its five new Embraer C-390 Millennium military transport aircraft. The contract was signed at the Air Mobility Training Centre near Gilze-Rijen Air Base, with delivery expected by the end of 2026.
These Embraer simulators will serve as a “sixth aircraft,” allowing crews to train effectively without actual flight time. This approach increases aircraft availability for missions, meets the growing demand for transport capacity, and reduces environmental impact.
The simulators enable realistic training in high-threat scenarios too dangerous to replicate in real life. Project leader Thijs from the Materiel and IT Command noted that these systems are designed to eventually integrate with other Defence simulators, such as those for the F-35 and MQ-9, enhancing joint training operations.
By investing in advanced simulation technology, the Dutch Ministry aims to improve operational readiness while promoting sustainability.
